The Department of Philosophy is a department of thought that qualifies creative graduates that are capable of dealing with the reality they live in with rationality and enlightened freethinking, using their minds to engage with all the issues of contemporary life they face.

Not only that, but studying in this department opens many opportunities for graduates, from teaching to working in journalism and media. As we witness, many journalists are graduates of philosophy departments, and many hold a PhD in philosophy. The same is true for media professionals.

I am personally proud to belong to this creative department, which includes some of the finest philosophy professors in Egypt and the Arab world, many of whom have held important leadership positions. I am also proud of every student who has joined this distinguished academic institution.

I tell you, my dear students, “The Department of Philosophy always welcomes those who love wisdom, reason, and the art of philosophizing. It is the department of greatness, covering all branches of philosophy, including Islamic philosophy, political philosophy, modern and contemporary philosophy, critical thinking, logic, philosophy of science, Greek philosophy, aesthetics, philosophy of religion, ancient Egyptian thought, ancient Eastern thought, ethics, medieval philosophy, and other specializations that prepare graduates to be outstanding.”

The department was established in 1996. It teaches and researches topics in ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary philosophy. The department aims to develop graduates who are aware of the ancient philosophical trends and schools across various civilizations, as well as the critical trends they present, which seek to distance students from dogmatism by being open to all opinions and refuting irrational ones.

Additionally, the department offers a credit-hour program for graduate studies leading to a Master's and Ph.D. degree in various branches of philosophy.

Philosophy, as a broad horizon for cultural perspectives, should remain a center of intellectual and cultural radiance within society through the universal worldviews it presents.

Philosophy seeks to enrich the cultural life of the nation and contribute to shaping its identity, reflected in its public consciousness across various manifestations: intellectual, scientific, cultural, religious, ethical, and aesthetic. It aims to raise awareness of national and contemporary issues and their development through time and across cultures, contributing to renewing the methods of presenting these issues and researching solutions. The department works on building critical thinking based on scientific methodology, deepening value judgment, and developing aesthetic taste. Accordingly, it strives to cultivate an integrated mindset in a conscious intellectual, encourage scientific research, and promote creative approaches to contemporary philosophical and intellectual challenges.
