A Message from the Head of the Department

Italy is a country with a rich cultural heritage, renowned for its history, breathtaking landscapes, architectural wonders, and the unique character of its people. Learning the Italian language offers students a gateway into the worlds of art, literature, music, archaeology, philosophy, and many other fields of knowledge. According to the Italian Language General Assembly, interest in learning Italian has been steadily increasing worldwide, with the number of learners rising year after year.

At the Faculty of Arts, Helwan University, the Italian Language Department aims to provide a modern and distinguished educational experience, setting itself apart from other Italian language departments across Egypt. We strive to create an environment that nurtures students, equipping them with a strong command of the Italian language while fostering cultural openness and preparing them to compete in the job market—particularly in the field of translation between Arabic and Italian. Through this, we contribute to the dialogue between civilizations and cultures.

Our department is home to an outstanding team of faculty members specializing in various fields, alongside foreign experts provided by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We offer our students cutting-edge academic programs designed to develop their intellectual, practical, and professional skills.

The Italian Language Department at the Faculty of Arts, Helwan University, was established in 1997, with courses commencing in the academic year 1997/1998.

Our Mission

The Italian Language Department aims to prepare academically qualified graduates in the fields of language, literature, and translation who can compete in the job market. It also strives to provide outstanding research services and contribute to community development through high-quality programs.

Career Opportunities

Graduates can pursue careers in primary and higher education, tourism, public relations, journalism, embassies, translation, secretarial work, advertising, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and telecommunications companies (call centers).

Our Strategic Objectives

To prepare highly competitive graduates in the fields of Italian language, literature, culture, and translation.

To graduate students with a high level of proficiency in various skills, including reading, writing, oral and written expression, listening, grammar, and morphology in the field of Italian language and literature.

To graduate students with in-depth knowledge of both classical and modern Italian literature, as well as a strong understanding of Italian society and the culture of the language they study. This enables them to grasp the cultural heritage of the target language, comprehend texts effectively, and be well-versed in literary theories, critical schools, and various linguistic disciplines.

To graduate students capable of translating between Arabic and Italian, fostering intercultural dialogue and meeting the demands of the job market across various public and private institutions.

To graduate students with the ability to read, comprehend, and appreciate texts, analyze them using critical approaches, draw comparisons, and identify both strengths and weaknesses.
