The Establishment of the Department
In 1995, a decree was issued to establish the Faculty of Arts at Helwan University, headquartered in Ein Helwan. Academic activities commenced in the 1995/1996 academic year, with the Arabic Language Department as one of its foundational departments. The department stands out as one of the largest in the faculty, distinguished by its extensive roster of faculty members specializing in diverse branches of Arabic studies: linguistic and grammatical sciences, literary and critical studies, and Islamic studies. This prominence stems from the department’s pivotal role in delivering Arabic language instruction across most departments within the faculty, as well as in the Faculty of Education and other colleges.
The esteemed Arabic Language Department has been led by distinguished professors over the years, starting with Prof. Sayed Hamed Al-Nassaj and reaching Prof. Fatima Ali Al-Saidi. Among them, many respected colleagues have contributed significantly, some of whom remain with us, receiving our deepest appreciation, while others have passed after fulfilling their noble mission, to whom we extend our utmost respect and gratitude.
The department plays a pioneering role in the postgraduate studies and research sector through academic seminars and the supervision of master’s and doctoral theses in its three specializations, following the credit hour system and the department’s research plan.

The Arabic Language Department carries out various activities throughout the academic year, such as:
- Orientation Day for First-Year Students.
- The Department’s Scientific Conference.
- Celebration of the Arabic Language Day.
- Hosting Students from Friendly Countries for Cultural Immersion (Uzbekistan Student Exchange Program 2022).
- Organizing Literary Seminars featuring poets, novelists, and writers.
- Launching Literary Writing Competitions for department students.
- Creating an Official Department Page on Social Media Platforms.
- Participating in literacy and first aid workshops and other activities related to the Environment Committee.
- Promoting the Department’s Identity through informational boards, signage, and other awareness-raising tools.
- Establishing communication channels between the department and students by creating a mechanism to receive complaints and suggestions.
