The Department of Theatre Arts is one of the distinguished departments within the Faculty of Arts, as it encompasses rare scientific and artistic specializations such as acting, directing, set design, lighting, costume design, fine arts, as well as drama, criticism, and the craft of playwriting, among others. These specializations combine both theoretical academic and practical applied aspects, which adds depth and richness to the nature of study within the department. This aligns with the scientific and academic framework of the Faculty of Arts, which aims to produce graduates with a high level of intellectual and artistic awareness, well-trained in the latest technological advancements in their field of specialization.
And Allah is the Grantor of success.
The Establishment of the Department
The establishment of this department in 1996 at the Faculty of Arts, Helwan University, was driven by the community's need for graduates to contribute to various fields of its specialization. The department is committed to preparing qualified human resources, including distinguished designers and artists, while deepening skills and capabilities. This is achieved through its three divisions: (Acting and Directing), (Set Design and Costume Design), and (Drama and Criticism).

The Department of Theatre at the Faculty of Arts, Helwan University, strives to be one of the leading departments locally, regionally, and internationally in the field of theatre arts across all its specializations, including (Acting and Directing, Set and Costume Design, and Drama and Criticism).

1. Theatre and Performing Arts: Acting, directing, stage management, set and costume design, lighting, and makeup within theatre companies and cultural centers.
2. Television and Cinema: Roles in acting, scriptwriting, directing, set and production design, and dramatic criticism.
3. Education and Academia: Teaching theatre-related subjects in schools, universities, and specialized institutes.
4. Media and Journalism: Working as cultural correspondents, critics, or content creators for media outlets with a focus on arts and culture.
5. Cultural and Artistic Institutions: Roles in managing artistic projects, festivals, and theatrical productions.
6. Freelance and Creative Industries: Independent artists, playwrights, or consultants in the fields of performance and visual storytelling.
